Ohayo diye okunur. Ohio'nun doğusunu kaplayan Allegheny Platosu kömür, doğal gaz, petrol, kil ve tuz gibi zengin yeraltı kaynaklar içerir. Great Lakes Ovasından güneydeki Ohio Nehrine kadar batı Ohio'yu kaplayan Till Ovası soya fasulyesi, tohum ve canlı hayvanların üretimine elverişli topraklardır. En önemli nehri eyaletin güney ve güneydoğu sınırını 724 km ile çizen Ohio nehridir. 'Midwest Bölgesi'nde bulunan Ohio'nun iklimi ılımandır,yazlar sıcak ve nemli, kışlar soğuk geçer. Eyalet ekonomisi ağırlıklı olarak ulaşım araçları, işlenmiş metal sanayi, makina ve gıda endüstrisi ile tarım ürünleri ve hayvancılığa dayalıdır. Eyalette pekçok 'ilk' yaşanmıştır: Cincinnati Reds dünyada ilk profesyonel baseball takımıdır. Ayrıca, Amerika'da ilk profesyonel itfayeciler, ilk polis arabası ve ilk trafik ışığı Ohio'da kullanılmaya başlanmıştır. James J. Ritty 1879'da ilk yazarkasayı Dayton, Ohio'da icat etti. Ohio'lu ünlüler arasında aya ilk ayak basan astronot Neil Armstrong, mucid Thomas Edison, şarkıcı ve oyuncu Doris Day ile Dean Martin, aktörler Clark Gable ve Paul Newman, ünlü yönetmen Steven Spielberg ve yayıncı-işadamı Ted Turner sayılabilir. Ohio adı nereden geliyor? Ohio sözüğü Iroquois kızılderili dilinde geniş veya güzel nehir demektir. Eyalet Bayrağı... Ohio eyaletinin bayrağı 1902'de kabul edilmiştir. Geniş mavi üçgen Ohio'nun tepe ve vadilerini, çizgiler ise kara ve su yollarını simgeler. Dairenin etrafında grup olmuş 13 yıldız ABD'nin orjinal eyaletlerinin, üçgenin ucuna eklenmiş 4 yıldız ise Ohio'nun ABD'ne katılan 17. eyalet olduğunun sembolüdür.
