Amerika Birleşik Devletleri'nin ilk başkenti olan New York City'de toplam metro uzunluğu 722 mildir(yaklasik 1200km). Dünyanın sayılı ticaret merkezlerinden olan New York'ta bankacılık, borsa, basın-yayın, bilimsel ekipman endüstrisi ile makina ve kimya sanayi önemli iş kollarıdır. Amerika'ya gelmek isteyen pekçok yabancının hayallerını süsleyen New York'da turizm de önemli bir iş koludur. Eyalette yazlar sıcak, kışlar soğuktur. Efsane basketbol oyuncuları Micheal Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, sinema oyuncuları Humphrey Bogart, Tom Cruise, Sammy Davis Jr, Barbra Streisand, mucit ve sanayici George Westinghouse, ünlü sanayici John D. Rockefeller Amerikan tarihinin en başarılı başkanı Franklin D. Roosevelt New York'lu ünlülerden bazılarıdır.  New York adı nereden geliyor? Adını İngiliz kralı II. Charles'in kardeşi olan Albany ve York Dükü'nden almıştır. Eyalet Bayrağı... Mavi bir alan üstünde eyaletin mühürü bulunmaktadır. Sol tarafta özgürlük tanrıçası tepesinde özgürlük şapkası olan bir kazık tutmaktadır. Tanrıçanın ayağının altındaki taç ihtilal savaşı sonunda İngiltere'den kurtuluşu simgeler. Sağ taraftaki tanrıça adalettir. Tanrıçanın gözleri kapalıdır ve adaletin terazisini taşımaktadır. Yasalar altında herkesin eşit muamele gördüğü anlamındadır. Beyaz kurdela üzerindeki eyaletin mottosu "Excelsior" daha yüksek hedeflere ulaşmanın düşüncesini ifade eder. Kalkan üzerinde ise Hudson tepesinin üzerinde bir güneş doğmakta ve Hudson nehrinin üzerinde bir gemi yüzmektedir. Kalkanın üzerindeki dünyanın üstünde duran kartal Western Hemisphere'i simgeler.
