Eyalet Mackinac bogazının üstünde kalan Kuzey Yarımada ve aşağıda kalan Güney Yarımada olarak iki ayrı bölgeye ayrılır.Yeryüzünde ilk otomobilin yürümüş olduğu Woodward caddesi Detroit merkezinden dış banliyölere kadar uzanır.Bu tarihi olaya bağlı olarak halihazırda tüm dünyada en çok otomobilin üretildiği şehir olan Detroit turizm açısından pek de tercih edilmesi gereken bir yer değildir.Göl, nehir gibi su kaynakları çok olan bir eyalettir. Rutubetli bir iklimi vardır ve yağışlar çok fazladır. Detroit dünyanın araba başkenti olarak bilinir. Machinac Boğazı dünyanın en uzun asma köprülerinden biridir. Alpena ise dünyanın en büyük çimento fabrikasının yeridir. Henry Ford (araba üreticisi), Magic Johnson (basketbol oyuncusu), Madonna (şarkıcı), Diana Ross (şarkıcı), Steven Seagal (aktör), Tom Selleck (aktör), Stevie Wonder (şarkıcı) Michigan'lı ünlülerden bazılarıdır.  Michigan adı nereden geliyor? Adını Michigan gölünden almıştır. Bu isim Chippewa kizilderililerin dilinde "görkemli sular" anlamındaki "mici gamma" sözcüğünden türemiştir. Eyalet Bayrağı... Mavi bir kalkan resminde bir göl ve yarımada üzerinde güneş doğmaktadır. Bir elini kaldırmış diğer eli ile silah taşıyan bir adam barışı ve haklarını savunabilmesini anlatmaktadır.
