Florida'nın güney kısmı genelde düzlüklerle kaplıdır, orta ve kuzey kısımları tepeliktir. Florida sahilinin Atlas Okyanusu kıyısındaki bölümü 933 km'lik bir alanda uzanırken, Meksika Körfezine kıyı olan bölümü 1.239 km'dir. St. John's, Apalachicola ve Suwannee, Florida'nın önemli nehirleridir. Florida'nın başkenti Tallahassee'dir. Jacksonville, Miami, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Hialeah ve Orlando eyaletin en kalabalık şehirleridir. Florida'da 13 milyondan fazla insan yaşamaktadır. İlk defa insanı Ay üzerine taşıyan Apollo 11 uzay gemisi, 1969 yılında Florida'daki Cape Canaveral üssünden fırlatılmıştı. 1971'de, Walt Disney World Orlando'ya yakın bir yerde açılmıştı. Coğrafi Özellikler Florida eyaleti Amerika Birleşik Devletlerinin South Bölgesinde bulunmaktadir. Eyaletin güneyi düzlük iken orta ve kuzey kısımları tepeler ile kaplıdır. Eyalet altı ana bölgeden oluşmuştur. Kıyı bölgesi Atlas Okyanusu ve Mexico Körfezi ile temas eder. Eyaletin en geniş gölü Okeechobee Gölü'dür. Florida sıcak ve nemli havası ile ünlüdür. Kışları çok ılık geçer. Kışın ortalama sıcaklık 15°C iken yazları ise ortalama sıcaklık 30°C olmaktadır. Dünyanın en ünlü eğlence parklarından biri olan Walt Disney World, Orlando'dadır. İlk güneş yağı 1944'de Miami Beach'de icad edilmiştir. Key West, Amerika'nın en yüksek ortalama sıcaklığına sahiptir. Ybor şehri ise dünyanın puro başkenti olarak bilinir. Ünlü Florida'lılar Jim Morrison (şarkıcı), Pat Boone (şarkıcı), David Robinson (basketbol oyuncusu), Chris Evert (tenis şampiyonu) Florida eyaletinin ünlülerinden bazılarıdır. Florida adı nereden geliyor? Bu isim 1513 yılının "easter" (paskalya) bayramında Ponce de Leon tarafından verilmiştir. "Pascua Florida" (Flowery Easter, Çiçekli) anlamındadır. Eyalet Bayrağı Florida Beyaz bir alan üzerinde kırmızı bir X işareti ve eyalet mühürü bulunan Florida bayrağı güneş ışığını, çiçekleri, palmiye ağaçlarını, nehirleri ve gölleri simgeler. Mühür parlak bir güneşi, bir palmiye ağacını, buharlı bir gemiyi ve çiçek tohumları savuran yerli kızılderili bir kadını içerir.
